The Central Scientific Research Institute (CSRI) was established in 2017 in response to a long-standing, widely recognized need for a dedicated center to collect, systematize, and advance knowledge of Russian Sign Language (RSL)—a center for which this mission would be the very core and purpose of its existence.
The CSRI’s fundamental purpose is to conduct foundational research on Russian Sign Language and, based on the insights gained, to develop linguistic standards for the language. All research findings are made public and freely accessible through the Electronic Reference and Analytical System: Explanatory Lexicographic Dictionary of Russian Sign Language.
